NIKKEI ROCKWELL x PILSNER URQUELL: Cheers to the Classics

You can’t beat the classics so they say – and when it comes to classic cravings, a timeless beer often makes for the best pairing. In the heart of Rockwell, Makati city- two worlds will collide in the most delicious way. The notable Peruvian-Japanese bites of Nikkei Restaurant will now be serving Czech Republic’s award-winning beer – Pilsner Urquell.

Pilsner Urquell, an all-time Czech favorite has a flavor as rich as its history. Backed by years of expertise, and perfecting the art of craft beers – Pilsner offers a lager light experience, that serves as a refreshing companion for several dinner courses. It has lasted for about 176 years and has been renowned as “The Original Golden Lager“, putting a couple of new beer styles to shame.  Pilsner also guarantees a soft, creamy and refreshing taste that will definitely have you sipping for more. Plus, its overall appeal complements perfectly to Nikkei’s enduring dishes, such as their lively tuna tiradito or the savory Peruvian staple – Lomo Saltado.

Nikkei is a celebrated Japanese-Peruvian restaurant that has recently opened a new branch in Rockwell, Makati City. Their menu of thoughtfully mixed craft cocktails, to its selection of sake and Japanese whiskey, on top of their undeniably gastronomic indulgences- has distinguished them as one of the prime destinations in the city to sip the night away or enjoy a relaxing fine dining. They also have happy-hour discounts every day that starts at 20% off from 3 to 6 pm, and a 30% discount on cocktails every Wednesday.

To give you a sample of their delectable dishes, here are some of my favorites:

AMUSH GUSH

This one is one of Nikkei’s special starters, composed of a softly made Norwegian smoked salmon, licora, and a creamy truffle potato as its bass. This dish is prepared to cleanse your palette, for an enjoyable meal. A bite of this dish will send a delicious soft sensation that just easily melts into your mouth.

POMELITO

Pomelito is a dish, which I can say is one of a kind. Lavished with complementing ingredients such as Pomelos, Tuna Sashimi, Sunflower seeds, mangos, Leche de Tigre, lemon juice, and white fish – this is definitely a mouthful bite with bursting flavors. Although it can be a little tricky to pick up with a chopstick,I still highly recommend this one for your own eating pleasure.

CAUSA

Causa is also one of their famous “small bite” offers, composed of a juicy potato bite with lemon, and a rolled wagyu beef on top. What makes this one extra special? Well, first of all, it is easy to eat, and the wagyu is just perfectly torched to reach that creamy sensation and the perfect combination of “hard torched on the outside, but raw and juicy on the inside”.

SUSHI ROLL and NIGIRI

If you are a fan of Japanese then you know that there is a distinct difference between a roll and a nigiri. Nikkei’s Nigiri is composed of a thinly sliced white fish, overpressed on a vinegared rice, covered with their Nikkei Special sauce, and topped with chilis and cilantro – an obvious culinary win.

Their Sushi roll, however, is made up of miso salmon and onion leeks rolled in a firm seaweed wrap with rice and smothered with sesame seeds.

LOMO SALTADO and CHAUFA RICE

I wasn’t gonna lie, I was already a bit full from all the small bites when their mains are served. But these two are still on my favorites. Lomo Saltado is a Peruvian dish with a tasty sauteed tenderloin and vegetables, paired with Chafa Rice, a Peruvian style brown fried rice.

SUSPIRO LIMENO

Always my favorite part of every good restaurant is the dessert. Personally, I believe that desserts are the key to keep your customers coming back – because this will usually be the last one they will eat, that can and should leave a lasting impression to your restaurant. Luckily, Nikkei did not disappoint. Their party-ender is called Suspiro Limeno, a soft and creamy delight composed of caramel, meringue, berries, and bread. Each spoonful of this little piece of heaven is definitely a taste to remember.

To wrap up this post, Nikkei and Pilsner Urquell is a new dynamic duo that promises two things: Easy-drinking and easy pairing, starting with its limited promo (Rockwell branch only) at Php 995.
